Steam Engine Waverley arriving at Battersby

Steam Engine Waverley arriving at Battersby

Battersby railway station is located on the Esk Valley Line, which links Middlesbrough to Whitby. The line is also the rail link to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Occasionally steam trains visit Battersby on their way to and returning from the engine sheds at Grosmont. The Waverley is featured here, and in March 2016 crowds gathered to greet the passage of 'Flying Scotsman'. Anyone have a photo?

Battersby station has a long and proud history. It once was connected to the line through Stokesley to Yarm, and, more famously, to the Rosedale railway, built to bring ironstone to Teesside via England's steepest ever incline.
